Birmingham, August 3 (SO News/Agencies) Weightlifter Lopreet Singh won a bronze medal in the 109 kg category on Wednesday, taking India’s medal tally to 14 at the Commonwealth Games 2022. Luprit recorded a total of 355kg with an effort of 163kg in the Snitch and 192kg in the Clean and Jerk. He also set a new national clean and jerk record.
He then won a bronze medal in the clean and jerk by lifting 192 kg. This is India’s 9th Commonwealth Games 2022 weightlifting medal (3 gold, 3 silver, 3 bronze). It may be noted that India won 9 medals including 5 gold in the weightlifting events of Commonwealth Games 2018.
Meanwhile, Cameroon’s Persilex Nebayo Jr won gold with 361kg (snatch 160, clean and jerk 201). Samoa’s Jake Opilogi took silver with 358kg (snatch 164, clean and jerk 194).
Lopreet Singh was born on 6 September 1997 in Punjab. In his weightlifting career, he won major weightlifting competitions like the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship. Lopreet Singh plays for the Indian Navy at the national level. He does weightlifting while playing for the Indian Navy. Has won many competitions.
Hussamuddin in semi-final, medal assured
Indian boxer Mohammad Hassamuddin has secured a medal for himself by making it to the semi-finals of the 57kg featherweight category at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Hussamuddin defeated Namibia’s Trygon Morning Ondewelo 4-1 in a three-round quarter-final match. Earlier, female boxer Neetu secured a medal by defeating Ireland’s Nicole Clyde in the 48kg quarterfinals.
