The US Defense Secretary has met with his Chinese counterpart, while this meeting is being seen as an important step in de-escalating tensions.
According to a foreign news agency, an important meeting was held between US Defense Minister Lloyd Austin and his Chinese counterpart Wei Fenghe on the sidelines of the Defense Ministers’ Conference in Siem Reap, Cambodia after June this year.
It should be noted that tension arose between the two countries after the visit of the former head of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, to Taiwan, while China, expressing strong anger in response, started military exercises.
In response to Chinese concerns, US President Joe Biden said his one-China policy had not changed and informal, defensive relations with Taiwan were also part of his policy.
It should be remembered that US President Joe Biden met with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping at the Group of 20 summit in Bali last few days, which lasted for three hours.
It should be noted that China claims its ownership over neighboring Taiwan, while Taiwan declares itself an independent country.
