ODI series: Zimbabwe’s historic win over Australia

Townsville, September 3 (SO News/Agency) Zimbabwe won by three wickets in the third ODI by defeating Australia on their home soil thanks to Ryan Brill’s (five wicket) brilliant bowling. Zimbabwe won the toss and asked Australia to bat first and were bowled out for just 142 runs. On behalf of the Kangaroo team, opener David Warner scored the highest 94 (96) runs while Glenn Maxwell scored 19 runs off 22 balls. Apart from these two, none of the Australian batsmen could reach double figures.

For Zimbabwe, Brill took five wickets for just 10 runs in three overs, including the valuable wicket of Warner. Apart from this, Brad Evans took two wickets while Richard Angwara, Victor Nucci and Shaun Williams took one wicket each. Zimbabwe’s openers gave the team a good start as they chased down a low target of 142 runs. Takodjunashe Kaitano and Tadeonashe Marumani added 38 runs for the first wicket. Kitano scored 19 (25) and Marumani 35 (47).

Due to the failure of the middle order, Zimbabwe’s score became five wickets for 77 runs and Sikandar Raza (08) also returned to the pavilion, but Regis Chikabwa played a captaincy innings and took the team to the target. Chikabwa did not play a single risky shot during his 38 runs off 72 balls. He put on a 38-run partnership with Tony Munyonga to bring Zimbabwe back into the match.

The wickets of Munyonga and Brill (11) fell before Zimbabwe won, but Brad Evans eventually ended the match with a single off Mitchell Starc. This is Zimbabwe’s first win against Australia in Australia. On the other hand, despite this defeat, Australia won the three-match series 2-1.
