India defeated Zimbabwe by 13 runs in a thrilling cricket match


Harare, August 23 (SO News/Agency) India defeated Zimbabwe by 13 runs in the third ODI cricket match on Monday, thanks to Shubman Gill’s century (130). India had scored 289 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the allotted 50 overs, in response to which the Zimbabwean team was bowled out for 276 runs. Sikandar Raza’s knock of 115 took Zimbabwe close to victory, but he could not get the win and his side missed out on their first win against India in 12 years.

After winning the toss and batting, India set Zimbabwe a target of 290 runs. Skipper KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan gave the team a strong start and added 63 runs for the first wicket. While Rahul scored 30 runs off 46 balls with the help of a four and a six, Dhawan scored 40 runs off 68 balls with the help of five fours.

In the first innings, the star of the Indian team was Shubman Gill who played a brilliant innings of 130 runs off 97 balls with the help of 15 fours and a six. Apart from this, Ishan Kishan scored 50 runs in 61 balls with the help of six fours. Kishan was unfortunately run out but before that shared a 140-run partnership with Gill for the third wicket.

India had scored 224 runs in 42 overs but after the fall of Kishan’s wicket, Zimbabwe tried to get back into the match and took regular wickets to restrict India to 289 runs. Deepak Hooda (01), Akshar Patel (01) and Shardul Thakur (09) went to the pavilion without even reaching the figure of ten.

India lost the wicket of Gill in the 50th over to add seven runs and end the innings on 289. For Zimbabwe, Brad Evans took five wickets for 54 runs in 10 overs, while Victor Nucci and Luke Jongwe took one wicket each.

As Zimbabwe chased down a target of 290 runs, opener Innocent Kaya (06) was dismissed in the third over while his teammate Takudzwanashe Kaitano went to the pavilion with a muscle strain. Sean Williams (45) tried to push the innings along with Tony Munyonga (15) but both went back to the pavilion in the 16th and 17th overs.

Raza then took Zimbabwe’s innings forward from one end while the batsmen continued to get out from the other end. After Luke Jongwe was dismissed for 169 for the seventh wicket, Brad Evans came to the crease and shared a 104-run partnership with Raza for the eighth wicket. Evans scored a valuable 28 off 36 balls with two fours and Zimbabwe needed just 17 off 12 balls by the time he was dismissed.

Zimbabwe’s hopes were pinned on Raza but Shardul Thakur dismissed him in the 49th over thanks to a brilliant catch by Shubman Gill and the Indian camp breathed a sigh of relief. Avish Khan ended the match by dismissing Victor Nucci in the 50th over. With this win, India swept Zimbabwe 3-0 in the three-match series.
