Hurricane Ian’s fury in America, 80 people dead, great destruction in Florida and North Carolina

Miami, October 3 (SO News/Agency) Cyclone ‘Ian’ in the United States has caused great destruction. At least 80 people have died and many others have been injured in the worst-hit US states of Florida and North Carolina. After the storm, local police and administration people are engaged in relief and rescue work.

At least 76 people died in Florida as a result of Hurricane Ian, while four others died in North Carolina, media outlets said on Sunday. In Florida’s Lee County alone, 42 people were killed by the storm. County Sheriff Carmine Marcino told media that the potential death toll is unknown because of the heavy damage recorded in the county.

More than 1,600 people have been rescued in Florida since Ian made landfall Wednesday afternoon, according to Gov. Ron Descents’ office. The heavy rains and damaging winds that came with the devastating Hurricane Ian have brought dangerous flooding along the Florida coast and both areas. After the storm, traces of its wrath can be seen in the coastal state.

Ian made a Category 1 landfall in South Carolina on Friday afternoon and weakened into a post-tropical cyclone that expanded into southern Virginia later on Saturday. According to CoreLogic, a US research firm that estimates losses from natural disasters, the potential damage from Ian’s wind and storm surge is between US$28 billion and US$47 billion.
